Freshly Reviewed – Is This Meal Delivery Service Worth It?
There are dozens of food delivery services on the market today, but not all of them can live up to your expectations of convenience and quality. Freshly delivers fresh, healthy meals directly to your door, but does it have the stuff to back up its claims? We put Freshly to the test so you don’t have to! Keep reading for our unbiased review.
1) The value proposition
Most people want to eat healthier, but they don’t have time to cook—and, if they do cook at home, it’s likely that they don’t prepare enough healthy meals. Freshly is a meal delivery service in NYC and LA (and soon Chicago) with a simple value proposition: Meals are made with fresh ingredients by top chefs and delivered directly to your door. No cooking is required. And even better: The service offers healthy options such as gluten-free, Paleo, vegetarian/vegan, and more for added convenience. Here’s our review of Freshly!
2) What are they delivering?
Freshly delivers 100% customizable, chef-created meals right to your door. The ingredients are sourced locally and directly from local farms, farmer’s markets, and CSAs. Freshly’s chefs prepare each meal right in their kitchen, then it is hand-packed and delivered by Freshly staff. There are no subscriptions or fees, which means you can pause or cancel at any time if you find yourself strapped for cash or if you just don’t feel like eating that day. You can also tailor your order based on specific dietary restrictions or likes/dislikes; choose from Paleo, vegetarian, pescatarian (vegetarian plus seafood), carnivore (only meat), vegan (no animal products), or keto options.
3) Price vs. value
When it comes to food delivery services, value is a critical aspect of what sets one apart from another. Freshly offers four meal plans with varying price points that differ in terms of both total meals and days they are valid for. If you’re looking for substantial discounts over its competitors, Freshly doesn’t offer them in any plan. However, Freshly also contains no hidden costs (like hidden fees), which is nice compared to many of its competitors. Where Freshly really shines though is when we start talking about food quality! For $90 per week, you get 8–9 meals made up of fresh produce that has been sourced locally whenever possible. That’s a great value!
4) What can be better?
Now that we’ve given you an overview of Freshly, it’s time to get down to business. What could they do better? The single biggest issue with Freshly is its cost. Although there are monthly and annual plans available, your bill can still add up quickly, and money is always at a premium for students on a budget. We recommend creating a list of meals you like from previous months, then planning in advance so you don’t end up ordering from Freshly every day of every week just because it’s convenient and not necessarily because your pantry is completely bare.
5) Conclusion
When it comes to food delivery services, you get what you pay for. Freshly has high-quality ingredients and is known for sourcing local foods. Plus, customers love that it’s easy to use, but there are some drawbacks. If you’re looking for simplicity without spending a lot of money, then Freshly is worth a try. However, if the price isn’t an issue and speed and convenience are key factors in your decision-making process, consider Blue Apron or HelloFresh instead.
